Recently, students at Jakarta International College (JIC) had a fantastic cultural experience at the “Make Your Own Tangyuan” workshop on Thursday, March 5, held on the 7th Floor of Jakarta International Tower. The event was a great opportunity for students to dive into Chinese culinary traditions and learn how to make one of the most cherished traditional desserts.
Tangyuan, those sweet glutinous rice balls usually enjoyed during Chinese celebrations, represents unity, harmony, and togetherness. During the workshop, JIC students got to mix ingredients, shape colorful tangyuan balls, and prepare them with various fillings. With the help of instructors, everyone went through the whole process, from making the dough to creating the perfect round dumplings.
The activity quickly became a lively and fun moment on campus. Students worked together, shared laughs, and proudly showed off their homemade tangyuan creations. For many, it was their first time making the dessert, making the experience both educational and unforgettable.
The workshop was open only to JIC students, with limited spots available, and it attracted lots of enthusiastic participants who were excited to try something new outside of their usual studies. The event not only introduced a traditional Asian dessert but also encouraged students to appreciate cultural diversity through hands-on learning.
Events like this help JIC create a vibrant international campus environment where students can explore global cultures, develop new skills, and build meaningful connections.
